Yes! We actually see them with telescopes onboard spacecraft quite often. The Sun goes through an 11 year cycle, from quiet to active and back to quiet again. During the quiet periods we’d expect to see about 1 a week, but at its most active we see 3 to 5 explosions a day!
NASA has a long list of explosions (CMEs) that its SOHO spacecraft has seen online, and you can also watch videos of them! I have the video of the explosion I’m studying on my profile if you’d like to see one!
@Alexa mp They vary in size, but even the smaller ones are quite big, and they actually expand as they travel! The biggest explosions (CMEs) can reach a size that takes up nearly a quarter of the space between Earth and the Sun by the time it reaches the Earth!
